We’re back on the case with more Harry Potter reviews here at Baking Thad Towers – celebrating twenty year’s since young Potter first took on the malevolent Voldemort. This time around it’s the Goblet of Fire, Rowling’s best yet.
Voldemort is on the come-back trail, as Harry is distracted by the Triwizard Tournament, the Quidditch World Cup and a one-eyed one-legged half-mad Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Frankly, it’s a relief when it’s all over.
Goblet of Fire has all of the things we’ve come to expect from a good Harry Potter adventure but more so. Just think of any aspect of Harry Potter you like and there’s more of it stuffed into these pages: More Harry, more Hermione, more Ron (more Weasley’s in general), more Hagrid and Dumbledore, more dodging Snape, more Ministry of Magic, more owls, more Olivander, more magical creatures, more Voldemort, more quidditch, and more… well… magic.
Despite all of this, it’s the plot where Rowling has really upped the ante – there’s about five different layers to it, and Rowling does a brilliant job of tying them all together: Voldemort’s return, the Triwizard Tournament and the Quidditch World Cup are all weaved into the same fantastic story that left me open-mouthed at times.
Yep, I’ve said it for every book in the series I’ve read, this is definitely the best so far.

This one was my favorittteeee. I really liked that we got to see a real relationship begin with Harry and Sirius too! That was one of my favorite parts of it which made Sirius one of my favorite characters!

Every single installment is better than the last. As Harry grows, the books grow with him and it is J. K. Rowlings exceptional writing talent that allows me to re-read this series every few years and yet love it just as much every time.

This is my first time at it – I’m surprised by how good they are (I’m clearly not in the target readership, and I still find them enjoyable). Expecting the Order of the Phoenix to take a dark turn now…

Have you seen the films? That would probably give you a different, interesting perspective compared to the fans who read the book first and than watched the film. But regardless, a brand new perspective is hard to come by these days so I am looking forward to your reviews of the next installments 😀

I have seen the films – but ages ago. I watched them to try and have something to talk to my nieces and nephews about. I didn’t really pay attention though! Just kept an ear out for the things they were talking about so I could keep up with the dinner table talk!

Haha I saw the movies before I read the books. And I did not like the movie version of Goblet Of Fire so much. In fact, it was my least favorite movie of the series. That dampened my excitement when it came to reading the book and I put it off for a long time. I ended up reading this one only this year and absolutely loved it. But the movie version still sticks sharply in the mind and tarnishes my overall memory of it.

I’ve seen the movies too, but ages ago, so I didn’t really remember it before I started this book. Its a brilliant book for sure.

Still find myself reading these books – after all this time. I know!
Be interested to see how you get on with the next – one of the most difficult to like. But the one after is lovely and warm, with a sting in the tail.
