Review: The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart

Apparently Luke Rhinehart’s Diceman is  a cult classic now. I’m not sure I agree with that, but it’s definitely one of the weirder books you could pick up on your next shopping trip.

It’s the story of a psychiatrist who starts using a dice to make all of his decisions. Now most writers would make this a simple comic novel, but Rhinehart chooses to follow this idea to its completely illogical conclusion. Before you know it you’re hooked into one of the most absurd, darkly comic books you’ll have ever read – the narrator becomes a cult leader, psychiatric patients break out, there are uncomfortable chapters on sex, rape, and murder.

Pretty soon you’re left asking yourself, “how the devil did we end up here?”
