Review: Logicomix, an Epic Search for Truth

A quick diversion from my usual midweek reviews. Logicomix is a comic book with quite possibly the oddest hero imaginable: logician, philosopher, and mathematician, Bertrand Russell.

It follows the young Russell’s attempts to put all of mathematics on a logical footing (which sounds easy, but fairly quickly ends up being a massive problem). Along the way, Russell ends up meeting loads of the greatest thinkers of his time, so you end up with some amazing art work, like this one of Wittgenstein on the front line during World War I:

He also does a lot of thinking out in the world, so you get panels like this one too:

Great, eh? Its just the oddest choice of subject for a comic, but its surprisingly readable too – come for the art, stay for the story.

You’ll love it.

So what do you think? Have you read it? Did you like it? Would you recommend it? Are you tempted by it?

Let me know in the comments!
