Review: The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan

It’s coming up to the Booker Prize, so here is a winner from a few years ago (check out last year’s winner here – it is amazing).

It’s a sometimes uncomfortable read, with moments that are sublime – it is massive in scope, telling the story of the last hundred years or so of Australia, including troops building the Burma Railway during the war.

I didn’t love this, but it is definitely worth reading. I’d steel yourself before you attempt it though – some of the work camp bits are harrowing.
