Review: Sleepwalkers by Christopher Clark

I read this because it’s coming up on the anniversary of the First World War, and I wanted to know how it all got started.

It is really good at explaining the causes beyond the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand – nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and complicated national alliances. Oh, and the press stoking all of this up:

Some things haven’t changed, have they? Probably some lessons in this for the not too distant future.
