Review: The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

This book is awesome. There are no wasted words, it’s all muscle bone and sinew. The opening line is like a punch in the stomach:

“He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish.”

Nothing else comes close to it – you know exactly what you’ll be doing for the next 100 odd pages. The only thing left to do after reading that is to have a beer.

Highly recommended.
