Review: Maus by Art Spiegelman

OK, quick book recommendation. If you’re up for trying something different, then this is the one for you

It’s a graphic novel about the writer’s father’s experiences as a Polish Jew and holocaust survivor.

Jews are drawn as mice, Germans cats, Poles pigs, and Americans are dogs.

A weird description I know, but it’s astounding. It is brilliant – not quite memoir, history, or biography – and making the characters animals makes it both easier and harder to stomach, both easier and harder to read.

It will stick with you forever (in a good way). It even won a Pulitzer in 1992.
