Review: By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept by Elizabeth Smart

Only a short book, but I got distracted by some crosswords so it took me ages.
It’s an epic poem about a love affair, moving the thing forward through the narrators emotions.

It’s pretty intense going, and the narrators emotions can be overwhelming. But it’s worthwhile reading in the end – I don’t think I’ve ever read anything like it.

Favourite bit is how love surprises the narrator – it’s not a fragile bird that you need to protect, it’s a turbulent sea that throws you around.

Recommended (somewhat).
